What is THEREDBOX Projects?
THEREDBOX Projects is a self-managed cultural and creative project of Carmen Toledo, a writer and theatre director of Spanish nationality, living in Amsterdam, whose work is carried out with the participation and collaboration of various actors, spaces and occasional sponsors.
The team involved in THEREDBOX Projects is made up of professional artists with training and experience in different countries. We all accept the commitment to participate in the projects as a cooperative and without economic security, we make professional theatre out of conviction, although sometimes we’re considered amateurs because, due to a lack of subsidies, we’re unable to finance large venues or promotion, or because we do everything ourselves, but if we do it, it’s because we have studied and trained for it. We don’t brag about it, but we do use it as a resource for creation.
Rehearsing, performing and practising our profession in contact with the public is what gives us beautiful and rich feedback and keeps us active and growing as theatre artists. Artists can’t live without art, although they can’t live from the art.
Of course, we would appreciate to have a production company, some subsidies, our own space and be able to invite more actresses and actors to participate in our projects, but while we’re achieving this, we don’t want to stay at home, we want to remain faithful to our profession and our creativity.
